Checking in

Been a while since I checked in. Our most recent performance (January 28) went well, and we've got a couple more coming up. Unfortunately those are either private gigs or hideously expensive shows to attend, so I can't invite you to see us until summer rolls around, and we (hopefully) do a set at this year's Folk & Roots Festival. Uh huh.

In the last two classes we've been working on memorizing a bunch of songs, so we can rely less on our songbooks during performances. This is a good thing because (a) we can play more songs quicker if we know them without looking, and (b) in the last performance I couldn't even set my songbook on my music stand without it bending straight to the floor.

Memorizing a new song is pretty easy. All you have to do is play it until you know it. It's best to work on memorizing a song that you like, because that'll make the experience more pleasant. Those who are looking for a song to memorize can go check out the Ramones guitar tab compilation, which has loads of easy to play and memorize songs. One that plays really easy on the uke is "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker". Check it out.
